Choosing Lottery Numbers

When faced with the little boxes to fill your lottery numbers into, it's natural to suddenly have your mind go blank. It's all too reminiscent of school maths tests, but with a few small and often random answers that could change your life forever. Luckily, this guide should help you to pick your numbers with ease, with a variety with fun methods as well as one or two serious ways of picking a winning set of lottery numbers.

Top Lottery Number Pickers

There are many ways to choose your numbers, from random generators to your cats birthday - I'll give you my list of top ways to pick your numbers, and you can decide for yourself your favourite method!

Birthdays
- Simply take the days and month of your birthday, a friends birthday, or even your favourite pets birthday.

Astrology
- In the early days of the Lottery, astrologers and fortune tellers such as Mystic Meg gave us lucky numbers based on our star signs. Many people have picked these numbers right from the start and are still using them.

Lucky Numbers
- We all have our lucky numbers, be it the ironic 13 or the classic 7. With luck, they'll be lucky on the Lottery!

House Numbers
- Although you can't fill your lottery ticket with just your own house number alone, house numbers can be a pretty fun way of picking your numbers. As well as your house number can use your friends, families or even the house number that your favourite soap stars live in!

Numbers in Popular Culture
- Is there a film you love that mentions a number? In Speed the bus can't go under 60 miles an hour, and in The Ring the number 7 has a significance. This could be a fun way of linking your well-loved films or tv-shows with your lottery numbers.

By Mathematical Probability
- It's true! A syndicate of university professors and tutors in here in the UK thought the lottery numbers were linked to mathematical probability, and on October 25, 2006 they won the £6.5 million lottery jackpot. Sadly, they aren't sharing their secret, but it is said to have two boxes, 49 pieces of paper and a very clever computer program that recorded and analysed all lottery draws.

Times
- Look at the time now, could that be two of your lottery numbers?

Random Numbers
- There are many random number generators available, either in gadgets such as personal organisers or even on the Internet. The National Lottery itself provides several handy and fun random number generators that you may use, which can be found on their website.

Numbers In a Hat/Tombola
- A tombola style system could be fun! Just write the numbers from 1 to 49 on slips of paper, fold them up and place them in a hat. Then, take out 6 of those pieces of paper, and voilà! Lottery numbers!

Phone Numbers
- Breaking up your phone number could give you a few lucky numbers, and your address book should be full of peoples digits just waiting to be acquired. If not, there is always the phone book...

Ask a Friend
- Ask a friend their favourite or lucky numbers for inspiration. Make sure though, you don't receive their lottery numbers this way, or else you'll have competition for the lotto jackpot!

The More Frequent Numbers
- Now we are getting serious! Some numbers do seem to appear more often in the lottery draws. There should be no reason for this - all balls are identical in size and weight, as well as all the balls are well-shuffled in the machines. The most frequently drawn balls in the UK Lottery draws are 3, 9, 11, 19, 27, 38, 44 and 45. But beware, it is still random, and the luck of these numbers may soon run out!

What Feels Lucky
