Monthly Review Of Lottery Draws For April 2008

Has Luck been a Lady to You?

If you bought a lottery ticket in April and then forgot about it, why not have a read and see if your numbers came up?  It is very easy to buy a ticket and then just forget about it: yet who knows, your numbers maybe really did come up.  How fantastic would that be?

We can all dream and sometimes it can also be helpful to have a look at the numbers that did come up….just in case you were thinking of buying them on Saturday night.

It is very easy just to stick with one set of Lotto numbers and some people have used the same numbers for years: with only limited success.

So why not study the results that have come up over the month of April and see if you can spot any trends, or even if your numbers may be the ones that never come up?

The lottery obviously can't be predicted, but it can be fun to see if some balls do make it out of the drum and into the magical 6 numbers set, just that little bit quicker than others.  Maybe some numbers really are ‘lucky' whilst others aren't.

You can even have a dream lotto, where you try to predict the numbers that will come up and then check them to see if you are right.  Who knows, if you get good at it, you may end up devising a system that works?

Please note that these are the main balls, which totalled the 6 balls to be matched as per the requirements of the National Lotto Main Draw.  The bonus ball is not featured in the table above.

The number 4 featured three times in April, which was the only ball to come out three times.  So does that have an edge over the others?
Number 15 appeared twice, as did numbers 1, 6 , 23, 46 and 47, showing that it really is a random set of numbers that appear.

The number 3 did not appear as the main number at all in the month of April, nor did 9, 11, 12, 13,18, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 36, 45 and 48.

If these are your lucky numbers then you may need to re-think them.  But the fact that they didn't come up in April, may mean that they are more likely to come up soon.  Who knows and it is all a game of chance anyway!

Only twice in April did no one win the jackpot, but at least this rolled over to a whopping £12.46 million at the end of the month.

The average jackpot was just over £4.98 million for each draw.  The fact that the jackpot was not won for two consecutive weeks raised the average jackpot prize, because rollovers always tempt a few extra people just to have another little flutter.

Other Winners

Other winners fared quite well in April.  The following prizes were won for people who matched five numbers and the bonus ball.

02 April, 5 winners scooping a perfectly reasonable sum of just over £154k.

05 April, 13 winners, netting them just over £116k each.

09 April, 4 winners, getting almost £174k each.

12 April, 10 winners, with just over £141.5k each.

16 April, 9 winners, each getting just over £82k.

19 April, 23 winners, with £62.5k each.

23 April, 2 winners, with almost £430k each

30 April, 7 winners, almost £185 k each.

The biggest payout for matching 5 balls and the bonus ball was therefore almost £430k.  However, if there had only been one lucky person that night, then they would have walked away with almost £860k, which is almost as good as winning the main lotto draw!

Results show that there is a good chance of winning decent money as someone who has matched five balls and the bonus.  The lowest payout was £62.5k, but the average for April was just over £168k, which is a pretty good sum of money and not to be sniffed at.

Thunderball Results

Thunderball results for April were quite low numbers (for anyone who likes spotting a trend).

8 seems to have been the luckiest number for Thunderballs in April and there were only two numbers over 8 called in April, namely 10 and 11.

So perhaps it is lucky to aim for low numbers in the Thunderball:  who knows?  Maybe 8 could be the lucky number, (the Chinese certainly believe that it is) or maybe lucky old number 8 has been out a few times now and so we won't see it for some time.  This is the real joy of the lottery: we just never know what will happen!

Euromillions

Euromillions in April were quite substantial, with some really great jackpots, ranging from 11.8 million (25th April) up to an amazing £46,291,408 and yes, there was one winner, who by now must be a very happy person!  That person did not come from the UK though, since there were no UK major jackpot winners.  But then this is a Europe wide competition.

The results were as follows:

£22.13 m

Fri 11 April

Fri 18 April

£46.29 m

Fri 25 April

There were no UK jackpot winners in the entire month of April.

The number 6 appeared three times in jackpot draws in April.  7 appeared twice, as did the numbers 3, 30 and 50.

Lotto Hotpicks

No one won the National Lotto Hotpicks, main prize in April.  Consequently, no one had managed to match all five of their hotpick numbers.  The jackpot for the Daily Play is usually £130,000 and more, but since there were no winner, no one benefited from this!

Prizes are relatively small for some of the winners who had picked four hotpick numbers, with payouts of £7000 for the four numbers matching, £450 for three, £40 for two and then £5 for one.

Theoretically, if no one won the major prize in April, then it is possible that the chances of winning are actually better on the major lottery.  But conversely, it may be easier to at least win something, even £5 on the smaller draws.

Dream Number
There was only one winner of the major £50,000 draw for the entire month of April.  So in effect no one managed to match all 7 numbers, which constitute the dream numbers.

Several winners did manage to match six numbers and for this they received the prize money of £50,000 each.

The biggest pay out for this game is obviously the match 1 number, for which the prize money is £1, which won't transform your life, but at least pays for the ticket you bought in the first place!

Daily Play for April

Only two people won the daily play jackpot prize, which needs you to match all 7 numbers together.  The jackpot for this is £30,000, so you would think that the chances of winning would be higher: lower jackpot means better chance of winning.  But that doesn't seem to be the case with the main jackpot prize for the daily play jackpot.

There were always some winners for the £300 and £30 prizes, so at least quite a few people did get something more than they started with.

Overall Results

April saw some good winnings to be had on the lottery and there were undoubtedly some excellent prizes to be had, in particular the main lotto draw prize of a whopping £12.46 million.  Who could complain about that?

The worst games to produce jackpot winners tends to be the Dream Numbers and Daily Play, which would initially look as if they presented the best odds.

However, the lotto and all its subsidiary games really cannot be predicted: if they could then gambling pundits would have long since managed to devise a system to ‘beat the odds'.  So no system is actually going to ‘make' you win, but who can say for certain that it can't improve your odds of winning.  And some numbers do appear to be luckier than others, so who knows, keeping an eye on them may help you to attract Lady Luck into your life and she is a very welcome guest, whenever she arrives!
